So this place really made it for me in Andong.
Seriously. This place alone is worth the trip here.
(That is, if you're only staying a day or two tops...
Don't blame me if you stay for longer and run out of things to do!)
But you get the idea. This place is great. I'll set that out straight.
If you visit Andong, but haven't gone to this place,
well you're an imbecile.
No, not really, but you're really missing out on a lot here.
Open everyday including holidays?
Until 11 PM, a bakery?
Well I'm impressed.
A bakery open that late, something you don't really see outside of Asia.
Very modern interior,
and very westernized breads.
Cream cheese bread,
apparently one of their populars.
It was good, but not mind boggling.
Their best selling cake is a Yuza pound cake.
Hmmm haven't tried, but it sounds decent enough.
Their second best selling, which was an earl grey chiffon cake I believe --
was sold out, and thus I couldn't take a picture of.
I would have been interested having a slice of one of those, but oh well :-(
Some Asian-style baked goods
They do not use artificial preservatives or additives.
Eat your bread within 2 to 3 days and store in a cool place.
Etcetera etcetera, some basic knowledge about storing bread.
So it looks like the Mammoth has made it to the Michelin guide as well,
along with another Korean bakery all-star Sung Sim Dang of Daejeon.
However, this one keeps much lower key, which I appreciate.
No insane line-ups, or big crowds allowing optimal service.
We were busy on our schedule,
so we couldn't exactly buy a ton of bread from here to eat.
But out of the ones we bought, my favorite was this one:
I almost cried seeing all that cream fill.
Soft, fluffy, with natural vanilla bean seeds
...you know you've hit the jackpot.
The outside wasn't your ordinary cream puff either.
A sweet cookie-crumble like crust, I can't wait to go back.
