Ancine, more properly pronounced 'anssi-ne'
specializes in braised pork feet and poached pork bellies
Located on the outskirts of Hongdae,
it has a single-house looking exterior
Interior
Just like a house would, they have several rooms that serves as dining halls
as well as a room that serves as their kitchen
The Menu
I would recommend something on this menu, since their specialty is
Jokbal (braised pork feet) and Bossam (poached pork belly)
They offer set menus which the waitress recommended
it allows you to try different types of Jokbal or Bossam in one order
And you can also pick your own spiciness:
no peppers for babies
1 pepper for amatures
2 peppers for Koreans
Menus with rice,
if you've gone totally Korean and wish to have rice with your food
Food setting
And the bossam
that brown sauce was the killer
ended up asking a whole bowl with just brown sauce
Tasted like... mild barbecue sauce with hints of wasabe?
something so simple yet so good
Jokbal Naenchae (naing-chae?)
This was something along the lines of... Jokbal crab salad.
There was a ton of roughly cut carrots and onions, I'm guessing it was to make
some kind of general food display pod,
but I didn't really want to eat chunky raw carrots and onions with faux-crab.
The 'dressing' was a wasabi type dressing.
Adequate to the dish, goes well with the Jokbal I suppose
The Jokbal indeed tasted different from the ones I've had before,
however I would have to order a regular Jokbal in order for me to figure out
whether this one is superior or not.
As of now, I'll just leave it as 'different'
Overview
The Bossam was a bit lean for my liking,
however I'm guessing it's the restaurant's style and I respect that.
The brown sauce was really good with the Bossam, as I mentioned, an absolute killer
I would definitely return here sometime in the future
The ambiance is good for a date
not too dark, not too bright
The white decor is somewhat girlish
with pictures of comic strips playing across on their monitors
Food-wise, this place is worth going for some drinks too.
perhaps it doesn't have the local 'sit on plastic stools while you cook your own meat' feel,
it does have the typical Hongdae 'transformed house' restaurant feel to it
and the menu would go well with beer.
