This place sells Korean street food - although their success has got them selling indoors, rather!
Located near Hongdae (Hongik University), my friend and I have agreed this place probably sells the best 'boon-sik' (a type of street food? mainly dduckbok-gi, spicy rice cakes) in Hongdae.
Details below!
Outside
Inside
Some type of lemonade beverage that is currently popular
Friend tells me it originated in Itaewon
...perhaps I'll look it up next time I'm there
Relatively expensive sitting at 5,500 won - however complimented the food quite well
Not overly sweet, but I wouldn't have minded having it without the blue colour
The food
(apologies on the pictures, it really does taste much better than how it looks)
ddukbok-gi on the left, fried squid (calamari) on the right
below is deep fried potato noodles wrapped in giim (kim, I suppose - nori)
Giim-mari (meaning rapped nori) is my usual favorite
but here, I enjoyed the fried squid more
Overview
Pricing was 3,000-4,000 won-ish a dish. Highly affordable, just like most street food.
As someone living in Korea with low spice tolerance,
their mellow spicy rice cakes were perfect.
Tender, reasonably seasoned, not overly spicy like most other places in Hongdae.
Originated in Incheon, the owner loved deep frying different foods.
The main store in Incheon has numerous tempuras to choose from I hear,
including some very odd food items such as fried squid eggs.
Expanding locations, and servicing at a crowded location like Hongdae forced them to minimize their varity, in order to maintain quality and speed of service
-- but the fried food is quite good here, with a few unusual varieties,
so do try their different fried goods!
