Korean - Donggang Marsh Snail Soup

Hello, there!

Sorry that it's been so long since my last post.
In case you were wondering, I was actually traveling around Korea
-- and thus I'll be posting a few posts on the foods I've eaten while I was traveling.

Some were good, however nothing too odd
due to my traveling companion not being very adventurous when it comes to food.

Alors, enough rambling!

The first meal we had was Marsh Snail Soup from Jaechun.
I've never had marsh snails, but the soup was fermented bean (Korean-miso) based

So the snails are quite small... Smaller than your pinky nail.
Perhaps it makes the broth taste different?
Since it sure didn't add much bite or texture to the soup.
If I had to pick an adjective.... "Gritty".

The meal itself wasn't something extravagant,
but I enjoyed eating the snail soup during that cold morning.

Also in good company,
we sat there and chatted with the owner lady for about an hour or so.
She talked about her children -- how her son is in Taekwondo and her daughter in ballet,
about her faith in the Buddhist religion, and also about how it is that
she has her store open 24 hours a day.

A great breakfast place I'd say.
An easy, foreigner-friendly food.

If you want to try something different,
but don't feel like adventuring for completely new flavours.

Other famous food goods in the Jaecheon area is the "red oh-daeng" (red fishcakes)
which is supposed to be spicy fish cakes.
Haven't had the chance to try them though :-(

Since there's a lackage of food photo-orgasms,
here are some more photos from the trip.

These are from Danyang, which we visited right after Jaechun.
It is one of the places I've enjoyed visiting the most during our trip!
Definitely going to try visiting again during the summertime.

A perfectly boiled egg, eaten on our train ride to Danyang.
It's a Korean tradition to eat boiled eggs on train rides,
but I don't think they sell them anymore on trains.

Some cats lurking around fishies.

These are some traditional slippers -- baby sized!
Very cute.

One of the most famous beauties of "Danyang's Eight Beauties"
called the Dodam Sam-bong.
They're three rock islands on a lake.

During the summertime you can ride a boat near the islands,
however the lake was frozen stiff that night we got to walk on the lake surface towards them...
